Representing the estate, Louise Alexander Gallery for the second year on the row at Paris Photo Los Angeles will present archive works from famous French artist Guy Bourdin with the intention to take visitors on a deeper journey into Guy Bourdin’s extraordinary work.
Louise Alexander unveils unseen advertising campaigns, cine film excerpts, vintage Polaroids, and rare iconic colour prints.
Guy Bourdin (1928-1991) was first and foremost an image-maker who never seized to learn and explore. The finality of his work was to express himself by pushing his creative boundaries. Mentored by Man Ray, he avoided the limelight, focusing strictly on the creation of arresting pictures.
A major highlight will be the unseen vintage prints Bourdin shot for Egoïste magazine in 1987.
This is the first time the editorial campaign will be exhibited and the only time these significant unique prints will be made visible to the public.
The exhibition will also feature a selection of iconic colour prints and a rare opportunity to view archive material provided directly by the Guy Bourdin Estate not seen in the US before. A highlight will be the ‘Walking Legs’ series – a campaign commissioned by Charles Jourdan in 1979 exhibited with an accompanying fashion film.
Paris Photo Los Angeles is the US edition of the world’s most celebrated art fair for works created in the photographic medium. The Fair is held annually each spring at Paramount Pictures Studios, the ideal setting to explore how artists have been and are using photography and moving image in their work in the 20th and 21st centuries.
